What would be a good one year anniversary present for my girlfriend?
Q. My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost a year and our anniversary will be in about a week. I have no idea what to get her. She dislikes perfumes, makeup and other traditional "girly" things. She likes books, but I already got her some for Christmas. Please help, Thank you very much. JC.

Is it weird to use the same anniversary after breaking up and getting back together?

A. I have, but the break up wasnt as long. You could do the math if you wanted to, subtracting the time you spent apart to find out what your new anniversary date is. But if you are getting married soon you will have a new anniversary anyways, so I say just go with whichever you want, if march 26 has always been a special day with you, then leave it at march 26!

How do I plan a 25th wedding anniversary brunch and reception?
Q. I am beginning to plan my 25th wedding anniversary. I am thinking about a champagne brunch and reception, but I have no idea what this involves. I do plan to hold it as a catered affair in a historic mansion, but other than that I have no idea what I should look for. How many hours; what type of venues, would it be the same as planning a regular wedding reception, etc. I am actually trying to hold to the same hours as my original wedding reception: 10 am church ceremony with a 12 noon reception. A. If you are giving THE speech, then make it about your parents. Find out from aunt, uncles, grandparents, or friends how they met, dated, etc., and also what their early years of marriage were like. Like a newscaster, you'll just read the script, even though you weren't actually there. If your speech is just one of many given by various siblings, then keep it short - a minute or two is plenty - and just talk about your memories of them as parents.

A. Unfortunately if she is set on a divorce you cannot change her mind. I'm very sorry you're going through this. I know divorce is hard, and having your anniversary when you still want to work things out isn't the best.
