A. I'm not sure, its just a short form I guess, like peple call their best friends "besties" or "biffles". It's just a slangy term

So, why a husband a "hubby" and an ex-husband an "asshole"?
Q. Nearly all women refer to the men in their lives in this fashion. While they are married, the man is "hubby" or "cutie" or some other demeaning nickname. Then, when they get divorced he is "The Asshole". Then, if you date said woman long enough or (God forbid) marry her you also become the "hubby" and later the inevitable "Asshole". Why is this do you suppose?

A. You know that is a good question! I have been married twice myself and I have never called my ex any bad names like that! My first marriage, we where both very young and "had" to get married. I never wanted it to end in divorce, but it did. I always try to respect him since we do have a daughter together.I wouldn't want him talking bad about me in front of our child and I do they same by him. I do call my husband now, my hubby, as I do not see it as demeaning. It don't seem to bother him either. We have been married for many years now and we both have cute little nicknames for each other. One thing I would NEVER do is call my husband now the same thing I called my first husband! Now that would be demeaning! As to your question, I… [cont.]

What do the term "hubby" mean in singledom?
Q. I know of this chick who refers to her fiance as her "hubby" I thought married women used that as a slang for the man they are married to. What make it so funny is that she is not divorced from her first husband lmao.
Asked by tattletale - Fri May 28 23:30:30 2010 - Singles & Dating - 3 Answers - Comments
A. You are correct; hubby is slang for husband. Some people refer to each other as being married when they are still engaged; it makes them come across as a bit desperate imo.

So why do married women call their husband's "hubby"???
Q. Isn't this absolutely degrading? Very few husband's call their wives "wifey". Must a married woman assert the fact that they have captured their "man" and he is now permanently owned and screwed by her? Must they do this by referring to him by a common nickname thereby dehumanizing this man even further?
Asked by IWEEPFORMOORE - Thu Nov 15 03:26:58 2007 - Marriage & Divorce - 17 Answers - Comments
A. If you find it necessary to quarrel over such a petty little detail, then you have more issues than just this. Personally, I would take "hubby" over @sshole any day of the week. Which, it sounds, is exactly what you are.
